Safe 'N Sounddays #2: Backback
Sunday Jan 31 2021 - 20:00
Werkplaats Walter [ONLINE]
Werkplaats Walter is inviting you for a new series of Safe 'N Sounddays. Two Sundays a month, from January till June 2021, you'll discover a selection of fine solo projects and duos in jazz, free impro and classical music.About 100 years ago Duke Ellington began his impressive musical career in New York in the 1920s. In addition to his countless well-known standards, he wrote almost 2000 compositions. Ellington has always been an innovator who could bridge the gap between the blues and the avant-garde. Backback sets to work with a selection of lesser known works by Ellington in the project "DEUK". So no Satin Doll. Rather think of obscure titles like "Oclupaca" from the "Latin-American Suite", "Chinoiserie" from "Afro Eurasian Eclipse", or "Anatomy of A Murder" from the eponymous film score. The big band arrangements make way for the essence, and this with the no-nonsense Backback approach that characterizes the Ghent trio. Due to COVID19 we will organise an online streaming of all the Walter-concerts between January and the end of May 2021. From the moment we're allowed to host a real audience, the Safe 'N Sounddays will be live and very intimate concerts, only 25 people allowed each set. The eight o'clock concert will get a live streaming for those of you enjoying the music at home. It's Walter's way to open up your ears and relaunch safe and intimate live concerts in 2021. By buying a ticket for this concert (series) or the streaming, you are directly supporting all musicians envolved.
